The Anxious PM’s Guide to Conquering the Tech & Gaming World
Hello, dear reader!
If you're expecting some typical PM advice from someone with an Ivy League degree, pristine grades, and the world's most predictable path to success... well, you’re in the wrong part of the internet.
My name is Jonny Martin, but around these parts, I’m better known as “The Anxious PM.” Why? Because anxiety and I have been dance partners for as long as I can remember. But here's the twist: I embraced it, turned it into my superpower, and blazed an unconventional trail through the tech and gaming jungles. From Mythical Games to Zynga, I've been there, done that, and probably stress-ate a cookie while doing so.
But enough about me. Let's talk about you, the budding product manager, possibly teetering on the edge of tech's vast ocean, looking for guidance. Here are some pieces of advice that I've picked up along the way:
1. Embrace Your Quirks:
Whether it’s anxiety, a penchant for neon socks, or an undying love for 80s music – let it shine. Our industry needs diverse thinkers, and what sets you apart can also set your products apart.
2. The Road Less Traveled is Scenic:
Formal education is great, but it's not the only route. Dive into hands-on projects, internships, or even gaming marathons. Each experience, no matter how unorthodox, brings learning.
3. Mentorship is Magic:
Find those in the industry willing to guide you. And hey, if they're not available for coffee, shoot them a DM. You’d be surprised at how many seasoned pros are just a tweet away.
4. Always Be Curious:
Tech and gaming are ever-evolving. Stay updated with trends, join forums, attend conventions (virtually or physically), and be hungry for knowledge. Your best asset isn’t what you know, but your eagerness to learn more.
5. Failures? Collect Them:
Sounds counterintuitive, right? But every failed project or mistake is a lesson in disguise. Collect them, analyze them, learn, and move forward stronger.
My mission, through “The Anxious PM” and beyond, is to reassure you that you're not alone. We all have our battles, our unique paths, and our moments of self-doubt. But it's these very elements that mold us into formidable forces in the tech space.
So, for every individual out there who's wrestled with mental health, taken the path less traveled, or is just bursting with quirkiness, remember: You have a place in this industry.
Until next time, keep gaming, keep innovating, and if you ever feel lost – reach out. We're in this game together.
I hope this blog post encapsulates your vision and mission while also offering valuable insights to budding product managers!
